Vital Futures is founded by Liz Koblyk, PhD, an award-winning foresight practitioner, experienced facilitator and grant writer, and core member of a community climate organization.
She trained in foresight at Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, the Institute for the Future, and the Futures School. Before launching Vital Futures in order to help make climate projects as relevant and impactful as possible, she developed and oversaw leadership and development programs, led a team through the organization’s largest-ever reorganization, contributed to the stewardship of a $50-million gift, and facilitated change management with teams (as a manager) and individuals (as a career advisor). In the process, she worked with a wide variety of people, including traditional VIPs such as philanthropists, organizational leaders, and politicians, as well as people whose voices are often devalued: newcomers to Canada, people with visible and invisible disabilities, people with multiple barriers to employment, early school leavers, people in precarious housing, people who have been incarcerated, students, and youth.
Throughout her career, Liz has helped people and teams connect to needed resources. She has coordinated and written successful grant proposals for funding bodies including federal, provincial and municipal government funders, family and community foundations, service organizations, and corporate funders. Part of her success is due to her experience evaluating funding applications as the manager of an award program and frequent member of grant and award selection committees. She appreciates the effort that grant writing takes and knows ways to take the stress out of the process.
Finally, she is a dedicated community member who understands that the wealth of any community far exceeds what’s on a balance sheet. It rests in the skills, insights, and efforts of the people who form it.
“Thanks again Liz for your great facilitation and guidance and in Foresight. I particularly appreciated your creativity in adapting this framework to our unique project. MOST EXCITINGLY I look forward to using these toward our planning going forward. Can't wait to dig in on that.” - Member, the Community Permaculture Lab
